Cristina Barbieri graduated "cum laude" at the " Girolamo Frescobaldi" Conservatory of Ferrara Italy . She has studied further with Magda Olivero and Ferruccio Tagliavini at the "Accademia Lirica" in Parma (Italy)She has studied with Alain Billard, Marie christine Billard, P.Venturi, A.Pola, R.Kabaivanska, D.Dorow, W.Salio, A.Bosman, R.Kettelson, and recently she has attended M.Freni’s Master Class
She was a Finalist of the XXXII National "Verdi-Toscanini" Voice Competition of Parma and in 1992-93 she was one of the winners of the " Luciano Pavarotti-Philadelphia Opera Company International Voice Competition" (USA).
She was one of the Winners of the "Operalia Competition Placido Domingo" in 1994.
She partecipated in the 1988-89 season at the Teatro Comunale of Modena( ITALY) in Puccini's "Manon Lescaut", with Mirella Freni and Roberto Abbado.
In July 1991 she made her debut in the titlerole of Paisiello's "La Nina Pazza per Amore" at the Montepulciano's festival, during which she also sang Mozart's "Spaur-Messe", conducted by Hans Werner Henze.During the 200th anniversary of La Fenice in Venice she sang the role of Tebaldo in Verdi's "Don Carlos" with Raina Kabaivanska and Samuel Remey conducted by Daniel Oren.
During the 1991-92 season she made her debut at the Opera de Montecarlo in the world premiere of Sergio Rendine's "Un Segreto d'importanza" and in Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi" as Lauretta, conducted by Gianluigi Gelmetti, which werw repeated at the Teatro Comunale of Treviso and in Schwetzingen's Festival.
In 1992 she furthemore sang "La Rondine" (Yvette) at the Suddeutscher Rundfunk in Stuttgart,during a performance which was broadcasted all over Europe and she was engaged in Treviso for the revival of "Un Segreto d'importanza" and"Gianni Schicchi".
During 1993 she made her succesful debut as Mimì in "La Bohème "conducted by L.Salemno at the Philadelphia Opera (USA) and at the Teatro Valli of Reggio Emilia (Italy). She appeared in "Gianni Schicchi" as Lauretta and "Tabarro" at the Festival dei due Mondi of Spoleto, where she also performed Schubert's "Messa in C 167" with the Westminster Choir: Other engagements included a concert with Giuseppe Sabbatini at the Harewood House (UK) registrated of Yorkshire Television and Classic Music Television ( UK) LTD,a recital at the Folcalquier Festival (France) and the new debut as Margherita in Gounod's "Faust" in Sassari (ITALY) conducted by Alain Guingal. Recently she sang Mendelssohn's "Ein Sommernachtstraum" with the Orchestra RAI of Torino conducted by Frank Shipway and she sang the title role of Costanza and Isabella in the world premiere of Franco Battiato's "Il Cavaliere dell'Intelletto" in Palermo,Torino,Cosenza, Jesi,Modena,Piacenza, Parma,(Italy). In 1995 season she made her debut as Merlina in "L'Impresario in Angustie" of Cimarosa at Radio Lugano and she as Adina in L’Elisir d'amore of Donizetti at Modena's Theatre and Ravenna conducted by M° R.Bonynge. During 1996 she sang in Mascagni's Iris at the München Rundfunk with the Münchener Philharmoniker conducted by Gianluigi Gelmetti,and in the Il Cavaliere dell'ntelletto revivals in Messina,Catania,Fano's Festival (Italy). She was Mimì in Puccini's La Bohème at Opéra Royal de Wallonie(Belgium) and at the Grand Theatre Opera de Reims (France). In the 1997 she was Berta in Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia at Teatro Dell' Opera of Roma,and in the summer 1997 she made her debut as Susanna in the Le Nozze di Figaro of Mozart conducted by A. Sisillo at Fano's Festival ( Italy). She was a Finalist at Accademia di Perfezionamento per Cantanti Lirici in Milano Teatro alla Scala in 1997 edition.
